Healing Waters/Aguas De Unidad

I arranged for Forrest and me to see one of the water purification systems put in place by Healing Waters/ Aguas de Unidad. This is a small system that uses a variety of filters with chlorination, ozone and UV treatment. The system is appropriate for a community of 10,000 people.

The ADU system can provide a 5 gallon plastic bottle of purified water for 4 Quetzales (50 cents US) compared to the going rate of 15 Quetzales. The sale of the water covers all overhead costs, but does not cover the initial capital investment of $24,000.

Forrest and I were very impressed with the system. We also liked their requirement that a local church take charge of the project. This has been a key factor in the success and sustainability of their projects.
